A French Door Refrigerator Can Be An Excellent Choice.

A french door refrigerator is very popular these days. Mainly because they have the benefits of having the refrigerator section above the freezer, and the top doors are split similar to a side by side.

The advantage of having the refrigerator above the freezer is easier access. Think about how often you go into the freezer section as compared to the fridge section. Less bending down and the frozen foods in the freezer are easier to get to as well; because the freezer door pulls out instead of having a door.

These refrigerators still have all of the options as the other types. Here are some of them:

    Water dispensers:

  • Water dispensers can be on the outside of the doors or inside. The inside option is less preffered because the door needs to remain open while filling your glass. This is true for ice dispensers as well.
  • Energy efficient:

  • Energy efficiency is outstanding is most of the modern Energy Star rated french door refrigerators. Some have a yearly operating cost of $60, and when you think about it this is only 16 cents per day; depending on your usage and electricity costs of course.

If your fridge is over ten years old it's a good idea to replace it with a new Energy Star rated one. Replacing an old fridge can save you maoney and the new fridge will pay for itself over time when compared to an older unit.

  • Various finishes:

  • Every color or metal available with the traditional fridge is also available with this type. Stainless is the most popular, but the price is also a premium as well.

The ability of french door refrigerators to store wider pans and dishes is a huge advantage over a side by side. With a side by side the fridge section is only a little wider than half of the total fridge. Storing larger pans in a side by side is a challenge.

The top of the line french door fridges are made by Viking, Dacor, and of course SubZero. These fridges can go as high, in price, as $12,500. Which is the budget for some entire kitchens.

Prices start at $1500 and go up from there. Price is influenced by the manufacturer, the finish, and the size. Other factors go into the pricing too; for example an Energy Star rated fridge is going to cost more than a normal fridge. You may be eligible for a tax credit if you replace an older fridge with a newer one. Check with an accountant on this, you may be surprised.
