MonoRail Track Lighting

What is a monorail track lighting? Monorail track lighting is a bendable track lighting system that has some flare. It can be bent into just about any shape by hand and will add a nice aesthetic look to most kitchen styles.

These track lights are very attractive because they can be bent into shape. If you have a kitchen that has some dark corners you can bend the track around those corners, therefore eliminating the need for additional lighting in that area. Saving you money and time.

Most of the monorail type systems are of low voltage and have halogen lamps. The low voltage lights have a transformer that mounts inside the ceiling electrical box, or in an adjacent room. The transformer steps down the voltage from 120 volts to 12 volts, in most cases.

Make sure when ordering, the total wattage of the number of lights is less than the maximum output of the transformer. All pre-packaged kits are within these limits but the addition of more fixtures may put the wattage over the limit and damage the transformer or possibly start a fire.

The fixtures, or heads, are quite stylish. Most heads are of the contemporary design, and fit well with a kitchen in the contemporary style. There are hundreds of different fixtures available and most are interchangeable, check your documentation to be sure you choose the right one.

The lamps are usually halogen. The halogen lamps offer a whiter light at an average energy savings of 33% over incandescent. Incandescent lights are almost a thing of the past as there are numerous other lamp choices available that increase your energy savings.

A monorail kit is good for any space that is no longer than 28 feet, and can accommodate the drop down of the rail and fixtures of 20 to 24 inches. You will also need a ceiling electrical box to house the transformer. If you don't have a ceiling box an electrician may be needed to install one.

Monorail track lighting is not only for general lighting. Using one of these systems to showcase artwork, antiques, or anything else that deserves some extra attention is a great idea. So as you can see one of these lights may be just what your kitchen, or any room in your home, needs.
